The Unseen Local

Partners: The Man Den, The Farm Community Kitchen, Cann Hall Women’s Foundation.

Funded by Foundation for Future London.

Young people in Leytonstone took part in artist-led workshops, and learnt creative and technical skills in digital media – arts, sound and film editing. This included talks from artists about pathways into arts and arts education, and talks from community organisations like The Man Den, a community group providing mentoring for black boys. The young people used their newly developed artistic skills for real-world settings, and created meaningful change for their communities.

  • They used their illustration skills for sign-writing and mural painting in local cafe The Farm Community Kitchen. The Farm is a cafe run by volunteers, which also feeds local families in need of support.
  • They co-created a film promoting the work of Cann Hall Women’s Foundation, a local support group for vulnerable women.

The young people started a portfolio, and learnt valuable skills. This will increase their employability. With The Unseen Local, Idea Space wants to further equality, diversity and inclusion in the creative sector.
